A36 Steel

Noble Industries is projecting a strong 2019

Noble Industries added 40,000 square feet of metal fabrication space in 2017.  We were extremely business when the expansion was complete.  Adding new equipment and moving our Mazak Lasers and Amada Press Brakes to the new area just wasn’t possible till the end of 2017 because of our work load.  In December 2017 and through the first quarter of 2018, machines were moved as time allowed.   The second half of 2018, Noble Industries was able to capitalize on the work flow efficiencies from the additional space.  We are excited and ready to add new customers now that the move is complete.   As the Fabricator article indicates, there are challenges with the increase in costs from tariffs but we are still looking to start and finish 2019 very strong.    https://www.thefabricator.com/article/shopmanagement/2019-forecast-where-do-metal-fabricators-stand-for-the-upcoming-year-

Metal Fabrication Case Study for an Automotive Aftermarket Customer

Metal Fabrication Case Study

Customer:   Automotive Aftermarket

Product:  Metal Bracket

Type of Fabrication:  Laser Cutting, Press Brake Metal Forming, Powder Coating, Packaging & Shipping

Problem:  Needed a heavy duty bracket with a lance and formed area which would include a square hole for a carriage bolt

Noble Industries solution:

One of our automotive aftermarket customers came to us with a need for a bracket with a lance and form section to allow a carriage bolt to be used with the part.  A lance and form tooling can be purchased for a punch press or for a brake press.  For our application we created tooling for an Amada press brake form operation.  This part also has an offset and 90 degree bends around the lance and formed area and the part number stamped into the part.

Commonly Used Materials in Metal Fabrication

COR-TEN A is a premier high-strength, low alloy steel, with its combination of greater strength and exceptional resistance to corrosion (5 to 8 times carbon steel for COR-TEN A and 4 times carbon steel for COR-TEN B).  This high strength steel is ideally suited for applications where weight reduction or long term maintenance fees are key considerations.

ASTM A-36 is a structural quality carbon steel which can be used in riveted, bolted and welded metal parts needed for structural purposes and general purposes where strength is needed.  A-36 does not come in light gauge materials.

Metal Cutting with Laser Equipment

There are many methods available today for metal cutting.  In ancient times metal cutting could only be accomplished by manual methods where a machined tool normally with pressure and teeth would cut through the metal.  Today metal cutting can be performed without the equipment touching the metal.  Laser cutting has become one of the most efficient ways of cutting metal without contact with the material.  Lasers can cut stainless steel, aluminum, carbon steel and many other materials.

Metal Fabrication Case Study

Customer:  Automotive Aftermarket

Product: Metal Brackets

Type of Fabrication:  Laser cutting, CNC Punching, Press Brake Forming,  Powder Coating

Problem:  Fast production of metal brackets caused cracks in the A36 material while forming the part.

Solution:  Noble Industries understands the chemistry of A36 material and how to form it without stress cracks.  We have been forming metal brackets in A36 HRPO since 1978 so it is typical that we can solve a customer’s problems with A36 metal brackets.
